Born on July 22, 1862 at Pavlišov u Náchoda - died on April 13, 1909 in Prostějov The journalist, poet, writer, politician and translator Josef Krapka-Náchodský was a versatile personality committed to social progress. He worked in Czechoslavic Social Democracy and was a member of the leadership of all-Austrian Social Democracy. Krapka's literary works include social poetry, short stories, stage plays, sketches, lyrics as well as memoirs. On his premature death, he left five children. Later, the Krapka family mingled with the Wichterle family, where Josef Krapka-Náchodský's granddaughter married Otto Wichterle - a world-renowned scientist and inventor of contact lenses. The existing transformation of the original memorial (built in the eighties of the twentieth century) at one of the stops on the cultural route around Náchod and vicinity was completed in 2015. The memorial is located in the place of Josef Krapka-Náchodský's parental home.
